In July 0f 2009, Kim Michaels left the Shangra-la Movement and his wife and moved in with another woman, saying they had a higher oneness than even twin flames. These are exerpts from letters to the community after he left, hoping he could gloss over his reason for leaving, promoting lust as a higher oneness. The community's response, for the most part, saw his attempts to draw them into his higher oneness as a ruse to cover over the real reason for his leaving, desiring a much younger woman.
"However, two years ago, a person came to a conference and I instantly recognized a deeper spiritual connection. Because she is a woman I simply pushed it aside and had my normal impersonal interactions. Whenever I have seen her at conferences, I simply surrendered any sense of a deeper connection or interaction.
This person then came to the School of Being this summer, and as we interacted, I realized it was necessary to stop denying a deeper connection. This past Sunday we both recognized that there is an underlying oneness that transcends anything outer, including the man-woman dynamic. We felt it was time for this to be recognized and that it could be expressed in many ways and certainly without a physical relationship."
"What I have realized since then is that this is the essence of the new cycle. I have since recognized that I have the same spiritual oneness with Melissa and several other people. My conclusion is that there is a group of people within Shangra-la who have this oneness, and we are here to take the community to the next level. We do not need to achieve this oneness. It is already there in the spiritual realm, we simply need to recognize it and acknowledge what that means for our interactions.
I am therefore asking you to consider whether you are part of this group by looking at the entire situation from the perspective of oneness. What takes us out of oneness and what brings us closer to it. To me this is not a matter of continuing business as usual, We cannot put humpty-dumpty back together. We need to transcend to a new level by coming into oneness.
When you look at this objectively, you can see several non-oneness scenarios. So I feel we are being called to choose this day whom we will serve—oneness or separation" July 31, 2009
"I know that there are those of you who know that you, too, are stained glass windows in the cathedral of light. We are here to let the light of the Great Initiator shine through us, to form that complete rose window that symbolizes the essence of Maitreya’s initiation: Come ye into oneness with me and with each other in unconditional kindness. For it is only by demonstrating oneness in kindness that the illusion of separation can be truly challenged. Understanding alone is not enough—there must be action. There must be the expression of unconditional kindness. For it is still true for many that seeing is believing.
Thus I invite you to take on the challenge of Maitreya, to realize that the world has only one goal, namely to pull us out of oneness by exposing us to the 144 conditions that are anti-kindness. Let us dare to openly face, expose, and transcend those conditions, so that we, together, may be the expressions of the 144 types of kindness embodied by Lord Maitreya." August 2, 2009
"As I have recently said to Lorraine, oneness does not mean sameness. Thus, one cannot have true oneness if people have to conform to a mental image or follow a particular leader who always has the last word. I saw this outplayed in the Summit Lighthouse and I know it is not the model for the Aquarian age or the Sangha of the Buddha.
Maitreya has simply thrown away the old canvas because it had become too rigid to be workable. We are each offered a blank new one and it is up to us what we will paint upon it."
"I feel the drama of Shangra-la has now been outplayed sufficiently for all to have the opportunity to see the central theme and decide whether they will continue to identify with their roles or see them as roles, rising together into a new form of community. Therefore, I feel I have outplayed my personal role as I was asked to do.
As of this movement, I will withdraw from the community and the situation. I will stop reading or responding to e-mails about the situation and I will take some time to reflect and gain perspective."August 4, 2009

"Some of you have asked about my new companion and why I have not revealed her name. Well, can you perhaps look at this from our perspective? It has been a week and two days since we dared to acknowledge that we have a deeper, spiritual oneness. At first the fact that we are man and woman was greatly confusing to us, and we have not taken our relationship physical.
